Ahoy, future Winning Bidders! Just a reminder that the bidder who contributes the highest amount of money has the honor of being named Philly Give & Get’s Most Charitable Philadelphian (MCP).

The MCP will receive:

  • A “Meet the Makers” Prize Package, including behind-the-scenes access to the talent at 1812 Productions & BalletX.
  • Two tickets to BalletX’s Fall series 2013 Lecture Series “A Pie, a Pint and the Process”: Join us for pizza, beer and an interactive lecture presented by dance critic Elizabeth Zimmer and the BalletX artistic team, as we explore the connections between classical and contemporary ballet.

1812 Productions’ Inside the Writers Room: A rare opportunity to observe the 1812 Productions’ writing process and rehearsal antics for “That Was The Year That Was: The Year In Review” as it is created in the rehearsal hall. Winner will also receive two tickets to see the show running on Dec 9, 10, 16 or 17.

  • a custom-made, 3D printed trophy designed and manufactured by NextFab Studio

Shine off those credit cards, and remember…it’s for the kids! Let’s meet the AMAZING woman responsible for sponsoring this fabulous award and making all of our hopes and dreams come true, shall we?

Before getting into the Insurance Business, Betsy Spivak was and still is a musician and songwriter. She’s released two CDs, including such hits as “Hot Dog Breath” and “Trailer Trash.” If you want a CD, all you have to do is ask…she has about 500 copies in her basement.

Betsy Spivak Insurance Services is a boutique insurance brokerage, based in Philadelphia, and aims to provide “nice people who do interesting things,” namely, locally owned businesses, individuals, families, and the self-employed, help with the widest spectrum of their insurance issues.

Betsy is also very knowledgeable about the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamcare), and all the changes that go along with it.

What’s a local charity or cause that you think people should know about?

ActionAids.org, which was founded in Philadelphia in 1986. Of the many amazing programs and events they do, one of my favorite is “Dining Out for Life”, which is always held on the last Thursday in April.

All you have to do is go out to eat at a participating restaurant (and there are so many, it’s hard to choose) and 33% of your food check goes directly to Action AIDS and other local AIDS service organizations.

Why is giving back to your community important as a local business person?

It’s all about keeping it local. When you give back to your community, everyone around you reaps the benefits. I created my business from the ground up and I’ve never lost sight of my original intentions. I feel so grateful that I to have the opportunity to give something back – especially to Philly Give & Get.

What are you most excited for at the Philly Give & Get: MAKERS Edition?

All of it! The minute you walk in the door, you can feel the excitement…and of the love and the hard work that every single person involved put into it.

What is something that you wish you could make?

At the moment, I would have to say marshmallows. They are much harder to make than I thought they would be. Oh, and really crunchy caramel corn made without corn syrup.

What is your favorite thing about living and working in Philadelphia?

I love experiencing this city go through its renaissance. People are moving here because they want to live here. People are leaving their corporate jobs and starting their own business because it’s actually possible here. That’s pretty fantastic!

I also love that my office is four blocks from my house!

As a former Philly Give & Get attendee & Winning Bidder, any tips for the Experts who will be braving the spotlight this time around?

Here is your chance to show off how incredibly awesome you are! It’s totally okay to be nervous – just take a deep breath and drink it all in… it’ll be over before you know it. Remember, you are surrounded by people who are there because they really want to be, and they love what you do!

A huge THANK YOU to
Betsy Spivak and Betsy Spivak Insurance
for supporting Philly Give & Get!

We couldn’t do this without you.

And we can’t do it without YOU!

We are less than a week away from Philly Give & Get: MAKER Edition…
